What is the Haeng Won Program?

Poem by Zen Master Seung Sahn:
Very soft is true strength
With harmony comes luck
Goodness brings you virtue
Follow situation then get happiness
Forbearance will make you a great person

The Musangsa Haeng Won Work-Study Program has been developed to allow practitioners from all over the world to get in touch with the Korean monastic root of Zen Master Seung Sahn's teaching. The program offers an experience of immersing in the daily life of being at a Zen temple following a work and practice schedule in exchange for Zen training with room and board.

The daily training consists of five hours of formal practice and five hours of work practice at Musangsa.

Practitioners receive free room and board.

It is requested that candidates take good care of any personal medical conditions before arriving at the Temple. Should a chronic illness appear, a Haeng Won will be advised to return early to their home country to ensure proper treatment. Therefore, it is recommended to purchase a return plane ticket with an easy-to-change return date.

For participation:
1. During Hae Jae: Participation in the Haeng Won program is for a minimum of one month and a maximum of three months, with the possibility of extensions.
2. During Kyol Che: A minimum of one month Hae Jae participation prior to any Kyol Che participation is required. If visa allows, preferably stay for the whole three months Kyol Che, if visa does not permit three months, at least two months.
